Air Freight.

Fast, tracked, and fully documented air freight. From Schiphol and on any route worldwide.

Import by air

When your cargo lands at Schiphol, it moves straight into the hands of the airline's ground handler before it ever reaches customs. The air waybill, packing list, and commercial invoice travel with the shipment, and the handling agent registers everything into the bonded warehouse system the moment it comes off the aircraft. From that point, the clock is running on release, and how quickly your goods move out of that warehouse depends almost entirely on how well the paperwork was prepared before the flight ever left the ground.

This is where pre-alert matters. Before your shipment departs from origin, we send the customs agent everything they need to start working: the waybill, the invoice, the HS codes, and any licences or certificates the goods require. By the time the aircraft touches down, the declaration is already largely prepared rather than started from scratch. If a query comes back, whether it is a valuation question or a request for extra documentation, we deal with it directly with the agent so the shipment keeps moving instead of sitting in a queue while emails go back and forth.

Underneath all of this is coordination between three parties that do not naturally talk to each other: the airline's handling agent, the customs broker, and whoever arranges delivery to your door. We sit in the middle of that and make sure nothing falls through the gaps. You have one contact for the whole process, and you hear from us before you have to ask. Flight landed, declaration filed, cargo released, truck on the way. That is the shape of a proactive update, and it is what you get on every shipment.

Export by air

Every booking starts with matching your cargo to the right flight. That means checking available capacity, cut-off times at the handling agent, and whether a direct routing exists or the shipment needs to transit through a hub. For time-sensitive cargo we also look at which carrier has the strongest track record on that specific lane, not simply which one happens to be cheapest that week.

Once the booking is confirmed, we prepare the export side: commercial invoice, packing list, and the export declaration filed with customs before the cargo can leave. If the goods need an export licence, a certificate of origin, or a dangerous goods declaration, we arrange that too, well before the truck arrives to collect the shipment. Getting this wrong at export causes problems that follow the cargo all the way to the destination, so we check it before it becomes someone else's problem to fix.

The cargo is then delivered to the freight handler at the origin airport, weighed, screened, and built onto the flight. From that point we track departure and let you know rather than leaving you to refresh a tracking portal. This works the same way whether the shipment is leaving from Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Dubai, or anywhere else. We arrange export bookings on routes across the world, not only from the Netherlands.

One contact handles your booking, your documentation, and your customs — from first call to final confirmation.

Worldwide reach

BYR is based at Schiphol, but our air freight network is not limited to routes in or out of the Netherlands. We book and coordinate shipments between any two points in the world, using carrier and handling relationships that extend well beyond our home base. A shipment from Europe to Asia, a consignment moving intra-Africa, or cargo travelling from the Americas to the Middle East all follow the same principle: one dedicated contact, proactive updates, and documentation prepared correctly at both ends.

Frequently asked questions

For standard cargo, a few days' notice is usually enough to secure space and prepare documentation properly. During peak periods, such as the run-up to major holidays, capacity on popular routes tightens quickly, so booking a week or more ahead gives you more choice on flights and pricing. For genuinely urgent shipments, contact us directly and we will tell you honestly what is achievable on your timeline.

At minimum, a commercial invoice and packing list. Depending on the goods and destination, you may also need an export licence, certificate of origin, or a dangerous goods declaration. We review your shipment upfront and tell you exactly what is required, rather than leaving you to guess.

Delays happen, whether from weather, capacity issues, or a missed connection. When one occurs, we flag it to you immediately rather than waiting for you to ask, and we work with the airline and handler to find the next available option. Proactive communication does not prevent every delay, but it means you are never the last to know.

Air freight is charged on whichever is higher: the actual weight of your cargo or its volumetric weight, calculated from the dimensions. Bulky, lightweight cargo often costs more to ship than its physical weight suggests because of this. We calculate both before quoting, so the number you see is the number you pay.

General cargo moves on standard scheduled flights and is the right choice for most shipments where a few days of transit time is acceptable. Express services prioritise your cargo for the fastest possible routing, often with tighter handling windows at both ends, and cost more accordingly. We will tell you plainly whether express is worth paying for on your shipment or not.

We handle the booking, documentation, customs coordination, and delivery arrangements. What we need from you is accurate information about the cargo: what it is, its value, its dimensions and weight, and where it needs to go. The more complete that information is upfront, the fewer questions come up once the shipment is moving.
